After a tour with the paddle board, the air is released, the cover is rolled up and the average 8 to 12 kilogram (17 -27 lbs) bead is stored in the backpack.

A paddle board backpack or a special paddle board carrying bag is often included with inflatable paddle boards or a set.

Among the presented models is also one or the other paddle board backpack with wheels. Especially for longer walks, this convenience feature is extremely practical. Once you have had the pleasure of such a paddle board backpack, you will not want to miss the comfort.

Guide: What Makes a Good Paddle Board Backpack?

Especially in beginner sets, which are available for little money, are often paddle board backpacks of inferior quality included. That’s annoying, of course, because if you’re already spending hundreds of pounds on a paddle boarding set, you don’t want to heave a backpack to the water that cuts in badly because the shoulder straps aren’t padded enough, for example.

The models on this list of the best paddle board backpacks are much better in quality. Also, the featured tote bags and backpacks can be expected to last longer. In the following, I will go into some factors that make up an excellent paddle board backpack:

  • Sufficient volume: there must be enough space in the paddle board backpack for the rolled-up board, the paddle, a change of clothes, provisions and possibly other paddle board accessories.
It is important to note that the right size is not only determined by the length of the board correctly, but especially by the width. After all, the boards are rolled up and stowed on edge in the backpack.
For this reason, the backpack must be at least 5 to 10 cm (2- 4″) higher than the paddle board measures in width. With most inflatables, this should not be a problem. As a rule, the beginner paddle boards measure about 80 cm (31″) in width. On the other hand, if you have bought a special yoga paddleboard or a paddle board for fishing, you have to be a bit careful here.
It may well be that then your choice of different paddle backpacks is quite limited.
  • Good padding: the paddleboard inside the backpack should be well protected from damage. Many backpacks are therefore lightly padded so that the board is not easily damaged.
In addition to the interior padding, however, the padding of the back area and the shoulder straps is extremely important.
Especially for all paddlers who have to cover longer distances on foot to the water, sufficient padding is a basic requirement. With a total load of paddle board, accessories and other small items of good and gladly 12 to 20 kilograms (27 – 44 lbs), the straps otherwise cut quickly.
Many good paddle board manufacturers have made the shoulder straps extra wide for this reason. In addition, some models have extra pads in the back area, which provide additional comfort. On the one hand, this is very comfortable and on the other hand, it also protects well against edged parts such as the paddle, which could press into the back.
  • Additional pockets: Most of the paddle board backpacks from this best list also have additional pockets that are meant for stowing accessories and other small items.
  • Wheels: A paddle board backpack with wheels is also a great thing that can make longer walks much easier. However, care should be taken to ensure that the wheels are large enough, otherwise they can get caught in loose soil or become a pain on uneven surfaces.

Conclusion

A paddle board backpack is still the best way to transport a paddle board. Carrying bags and backpacks also provide a safe environment to store the board. If you’re spending hundreds or even more than a thousand dollars on a high-quality paddle board, you shouldn’t skimp on the paddle board backpack either.

In our best list we have listed a number of really good models and some more innovative ideas that can effectively protect your board and make your way to the water much easier.

Hi, my name is Max. In 2016, on my first SUP trip, I was still a bit shaky on the SUP board. But quickly the ambition grabbed me and my passion for SUP was ignited. That’s why I founded stand-up-paddling.org the same year. Our mission is to help beginners discover this sport and bring more transparency into the market with our in-depth product reviews.
