Paddle boarding is a sport for everyone. In the beginning, inflatable boards were quite thin and therefore only suitable for light people.
In the meantime, however, there are also many paddle boards for heavy people. This is especially great for those who want to lose weight with paddle boarding. Still, not every board is suitable for heavy paddlers, but we will help you find the right board.

Below, we’ll go over what’s important in paddle boards for heavy paddlers and present our favorites among boards for heavier people.
Checklist: Here’s What’s Important About Paddle Boards for Heavy Paddlers
- High load capacity: if you’re looking for a board for overweight paddlers, you need to pay close attention to a high load capacity. Paddle boards won’t sink if their load capacity is exceeded, but will then lie too low in the water, severely limiting performance on the water. If the load is too high, the boards are then less maneuverable and much slower.
- Accuracy of maximum load specifications: Unfortunately, many paddle board manufacturers make massively exaggerated statements when it comes to maximum load. For this reason, you should look that the respective board comes at least to a maximum load capacity of 150 kilograms (330 lbs).
- Board width: The width of the board has a big impact on the maximum load a board can handle. A good paddle board for heavy riders should ideally be about 84 cm or wider.
- Board Thickness: a decent paddle board for heavy paddlers must have a thickness of 6 inches or 15 cm. Thinner boards that measure only 10 cm or 12.5 cm are completely unsuitable for heavier riders.
