How to Choose the Right Drybag for Paddleboarders
Drybags come in all shapes, colors and sizes. Some come as bags, some are backpacks and others are made of hard plastic.
Dry bags not only protect against splashing water. The contents of the bag remain dry even if dipped underwater.
After all, a fall from the paddle board can easily send the bag (if poorly secured) into the water.
When it comes to protecting water-sensitive items such as food, watches, books, the car keys, money, papers or the smartphone, you can not get around a dry bag.
What Makes a Good Drybag for Paddle Boarding?
- Volume: A good drybag should have a volume of at least 10-25 liters. This way, you can be sure to fit your all your gear will without any problems.
- Light-colored inner walls: Models with inner walls in lighter shades are useful, because then the contents are easily recognizable, and you don’t have to rummage around inside forever when you’re looking for something.
- Bright color outer site: A bright outer side is not a must, but definitely useful to quickly spot the drybag both in a garage and in the water. If a turn doesn’t work out, and it ends up in an unplanned water walk altogether, it’s important to be able to spot the drybag quickly in the water.
- Price: Drybags are very affordable. Even great models often don’t cost you more than £25. However, a low-quality model could cost you a lot, considering how much mobile phones alone cost nowadays.
- Extras: Some models offer extras like external pockets for the phone. Whether this is really necessary, everyone must know for themselves.
Should It Be a Paddle Board Drybag or Will Another One Do?
Paddle board drybags are specially designed to meet the needs of paddlers. In addition to factors such as durability, functionality, comfort and size also play into the decision.
Typically, drybags for paddleboarding are a slightly larger investment. Regular models tend to be a little cheaper in price, but are less well-matched to the requirements of paddleboarding.
Conclusion
If you’re planning a nice second breakfast halfway through your trip, need to have your phone with you at all times (perhaps due to a paddleboarding app), or have always wanted to set up a hammock at that one spot in the middle of your paddleboarding tour, you can now do it.
All it takes is a (great) paddleboarding drybag.
